Aethel-Hearth was once a single continent held together by the Aethel-Core, a crystalline pillar that anchored gravity, time, and the bond between humans and animals. When ancient artisans tried to draw power directly from the Core, their machine triggered the Great Resonance. The Core shattered into Shards and Embers, the land split into floating vertical tiers, and the old animal world was lost. Surviving souls clung to elemental matter and became Elemental Echoes — spirits that forgot their history and withdrew into the wild. In the lowest stable valley, refugees built Hearth Town around a warm fragment of the Core and began rebuilding the lost arts of cooking, smithing, alchemy, and breeding. The player is a field researcher sworn to the Archivist's mandate: carry a copper-wired Codex into the outer roads, defeat wild echoes in honest combat, register their forms, recover recipes and bloodlines, and chart the fractured tiers before memory fades again. After swearing an attunement oath with a starter companion, the researcher maps the four starter glens, returns to Hearth Town for rest and craft, and gradually unlocks higher regions — moss highlands, volt caverns, reef shelves, gale steps, twilight ridges, and eventually the Veiled Sanctum. Along the way, the researcher fills a personal field journal, uncovers archive lore about the Fracture, breeds new lines in the Kennel, hatches recovered shells, and documents legendary paragons and mythic fusions scattered across the world. Archivist Malakai and the guild masters track progress toward a complete ledger of every known echo. The campaign culminates when all 305 species are registered in the Codex. At the Grand Horizon ceremony in Hearth Town, the completed ledger stabilizes a local gravity field and restores a foundation for humanity to rebuild — even though the upper tiers and rifts remain dangerous.
